Ragamuffin Recipes: BBQ Coffee Rub

As the 4th of July approaches, it’s time to start planning the ultimate cookout. The crew over at Ragamuffin has been tinkering with a BBQ rub recipe for the last few months and we think we hit on something special. A rich, smoky, and slightly sweet blend that will elevate your grilled meats to a whole new level.

Why Coffee?

Coffee isn't just for your morning cup anymore. Its deep, robust flavor pairs beautifully with the smoky essence of barbecue, adding a rich, earthy undertone to the meat. When used in a rub, coffee grounds enhance the natural flavors of the meat, creating a complex profile that balances perfectly with the savory and spicy elements of the rub. The coffee also helps to tenderize the meat, making each bite juicy and flavorful.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 cup your favorite Ragamuffin Coffee freshly ground
  • 2 tbsp dark brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp white sea salt
  • 1 tbsp black pepper fresh cracked
  • 2 tsp ground smoked ancho chili powder
  • 2 tsp ground smoked cayenne

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix the Ingredients: Add all the ingratiates into a bowl or small jar, a mix together until evenly mixed.
  2. Prep the Meat: Pat your meat dry with paper towels. This rub works great on ribs, steaks, chicken, or even pork chops.
  3. Apply the Rub: Generously coat the meat with the coffee rub, pressing it in to ensure it adheres well. For the best flavor, let the meat rest for at least 30 minutes. For even more intense flavor, refrigerate the rubbed meat overnight.
  4. Grill to Perfection: Grill or smoke your meat as you normally would. The rub will create a delicious crust as it cooks.

Tips for Success:

  • Quality Coffee: Use fresh, finely ground coffee for the best results. The flavor will be more pronounced and less bitter.
  • Even Coating: Make sure the rub is evenly distributed for consistent flavor in every bite.
  • Rest Time: Allowing the rub to sit on the meat before cooking helps the flavors penetrate deeper.

We hope you get to try this

Happy grilling and Happy 4th of July!
