The Double Down is the next addition to our barrel aging series and was done in collaboration with Firestone Walker Barrelworks in Buellton California.
This project was inspired by the 20th anniversary of Firestone Walker's prominent Double DBA. We were able to acquire 2 bourbon barrels from Barrelworks which previously aged Reginald Brett. Reginald Brett is a wild sour ale whose base beer is none other than the Double DBA.
Over the course of 5 months, we aged a single origin Costa Rica La Abeja, a Geisha blend, in both of these barrels. In the time the Abeja was able to concentrate its natural fruit flavor while taking on some of the characteristics of the wild ale barrel.
