Tastings at Ten: Where Coffee Becomes a Conversation

At Ragamuffin, we believe coffee is more than a morning routine. It’s more than a caffeine boost. It’s more than what gets you out the door.

Coffee is a story. It’s a craft. It’s a connection.

That’s why we created Tastings at Ten — our monthly, complimentary coffee tasting experience hosted at both of our café locations in Newbury Park and Oxnard.

Once a month, we slow things down. We clear a little space at the café. We hand-pour some of our favorite single origin coffees and house blends. And we invite you to join us.

No ticket. No pressure. Just good coffee and good conversation.

What Makes Tastings at Ten Different?

This isn’t a formal class with slides and note sheets. It’s not a lecture. It’s not intimidating.

It’s approachable. It’s curious. It’s communal.

Our baristas guide you through the coffee tasting — each time it may be from different farms, countries, processing methods, or roast profiles — so you can taste the differences for yourself month after month.

Maybe it’s a bright Ethiopian with floral notes and citrus acidity.
Maybe it’s a chocolatey Central American with smooth body and caramel sweetness.
Maybe it’s a new blend we’re excited about or a roast you’ve walked past a dozen times but never tried.

Tastings at Ten gives you the opportunity to explore what makes each cup unique — and to discover what you personally love.

The Educational Side (Without the Intimidation)

We care deeply about where our coffee comes from.

Behind every bag of beans are farmers, families, regions, altitudes, processing methods, and roasting decisions that all influence what ends up in your cup.

During Tastings at Ten, we talk about:

  • The farms and people behind our beans
  • How processing methods (washed, natural, anaerobic) affect flavor
  • What “single origin” actually means
  • Why roast profile matters
  • How brewing changes the experience

You can ask questions. You can compare to your favorite coffee. You can say, “Wait… I actually taste that.”

It’s a chance to move from just drinking coffee to truly experiencing it.

For Regulars, Newcomers, and the Coffee-Curious

You don’t need to be a coffee expert. You don’t need to know flavor notes by heart. You don’t need to own fancy equipment.

All you need is curiosity.

Every tasting is a little different — depending on what we’re excited about, what’s fresh off roast, and what we want to highlight that month.

Tastings at Ten is our way of giving back to the community that shows up for us every day. It’s a way to open up the craft side of what we do and invite you behind the scenes — without making it complicated.

Tastings at Ten happens monthly at both of our café locations — typically on the last weekend of the month.
